    Hyderabad: The 15-day Swachhata Pakhwada cleanliness drive came to an end on Tuesday. It was a big success with lots of participation from officers, staff, school children, scouts and guides, and NGOs.

    According to the South Central Railway (SCR) officials, cleanliness activities were conducted at 636 railway stations. The purpose was to improve cleanliness at the stations and to raise awareness among the public. These activities were also carried out at 66 sub-shops in Lalaguda, Rayanapadu, and Tirupati workshops. During the campaign, they cleaned 5,196 kilometers of railway tracks across the zone. They removed 27.44 tonnes of plastic and collected 430 tonnes of scrap from various workshops.

    A total of 36,183 people, including officers, staff, and school students, participated in the cleanliness activities at different railway premises. Officers and supervisors also carried out regular cleanliness checks on 183 trains under SCR. As part of an anti-littering effort, 5,010 people were warned about littering at stations and on trains, and 283 people were fined, resulting in a collection of Rs 56,600.

    During the 15-day drive, they also planted 73,836 trees across the different divisions and workshops, according to a senior SCR officer.
