The motor trail run of the Sitarama project was successful last night. This project aims to provide water to the districts of Mahabubabad and Khammam. Agriculture Minister Tummala Nageswara Rao confirmed the success of the project, which has been in progress since last week.
The Sitarama project was started by the previous government to provide irrigation water to ten lakh acres at an estimated cost of Rs. 17,000 crore. Despite spending Rs. 7000 crores on the project, there have been land acquisition issues in certain areas, leading to incomplete construction of canals even though all motors are ready.
A new canal from Enukur to Vaira is currently being built at a cost of 90 crore rupees, with completion expected by August. This canal will transport irrigation water from Godavari to Vaira through the Sitarama lifting and pumping scheme using motors. There are also plans to supply irrigation water from Vaira Reservoir to Sathupalli via Nagarjuna Sagar canals.
Minister Tummala Nageswara Rao is overseeing the Sitarama project’s progress closely and has been urging officials to speed up the construction. The successful motor trial run for the project occurred last night at PG Kothur of Ashwapuram Mandal.
