A college in Hyderabad did not let students wearing burqas enter the building and said that they could not take exams unless they removed them. This happened at K.V. Ranga Reddy Degree College for Women on Friday. The students said that the management told them to take off their burqas and when they didn’t, they were not allowed to take their exams. After 30 minutes, the management let them in once they took off their burqas.

Mohammad Mahmood Ali, the state Home Minister, responded to the incident by saying that their policy is secular and people can wear whatever they want. However, he also said that people should wear appropriate clothes and women should be covered as much as possible and not wear short dresses. He also said that there is nowhere that it is written that a burqa cannot be worn and they will take action.
