Students in Hyderabad returned to school after their summer break, with attendance ranging from 50-60% on the first day. Despite renovations to classrooms and facilities, many government schools in the city still lack staff to maintain the premises.
Issues persist with textbooks and uniforms, as only higher classes receive textbooks while lower classes receive only notebooks. Uniform deliveries are also limited. Although infrastructure improvements have been made under the ‘Amma Adarsha Patashala’ scheme, the lack of sanitation workers remains a significant challenge, especially since the pandemic.
Teachers at government schools expressed concerns about incomplete textbook deliveries and the absence of sanitation workers. While renovations have been completed, the lack of staff to maintain these facilities poses a problem. Uniforms and textbooks are still being distributed to students across the city.
Officials from the School Education Department in Telangana reported that uniforms will be distributed to over 21 lakh students within the week, with notebooks already delivered to over 11 lakh students. Textbooks and workbooks are also set to be distributed to students for the upcoming academic year.
