The State Higher Education department and government in Telangana may need to work together more effectively to improve higher education policies. Currently, the focus is heavily on technological studies to provide job opportunities.

Some experts believe that this narrow focus on engineering and medical studies has limited the overall development of higher education standards. As a result, fields like fundamental sciences, social sciences, and humanities have struggled to attract students.

On the other hand, some officials point out that new subjects like agriculture sciences have been introduced at the undergraduate level. However, the delay in implementing the NEP-2020, which allows for multi-disciplinary education, has led to under-utilization of resources in government-run universities and colleges.

There is potential for collaboration between different institutions to offer multi-disciplinary courses and create new career opportunities for students. The NEP-2020 is seen as a positive step towards allowing students to explore different interests and career paths based on market demands.

Encouraging students to pursue only traditional paths like IITs may not be sufficient in today’s rapidly changing job market. Embracing multi-disciplinary and cross-disciplinary approaches could be the way forward, but it remains to be seen whether the State government or the State Higher Education department will take the lead in making necessary changes.
