Residents of Hyderabad Complain About Increasing Pollution
Residents of Nizampet, Bachupally, and Miyapur are facing serious problems due to growing industrial pollution in their areas. Many factories are operating without permission, causing discomfort to the people living nearby. Despite repeated complaints to the Pollution Control Board (PCB), no action has been taken.
Locals have noticed that the air quality index (AQI) in these areas keeps changing. In Nizampet, especially, the air quality is sometimes moderate but often unsatisfactory. Several factories are located within a 5-kilometer radius of residential areas, making the situation worse. Earlier, people used to experience a bad smell only once a month, but now the problem has become more frequent. Thick smoke from the factories is also visible, even at night.
Residents have also raised concerns about water pollution. Many industries are dumping waste directly into drains and nearby water bodies, making the groundwater unsafe. Complaints have been filed, but no strict action has been taken against the industries.
Sai Teja, a resident of Nizampet, shared his experience: “Earlier, the foul smell came once a month, but for the past week, it has become unbearable. The thick smoke is visible even in the dark. We have complained to the PCB multiple times, and officials even visited our area last week, but no action has been taken. Due to the pollution, many people in our locality are suffering from respiratory issues. Besides air pollution, industries are also dumping waste into the lake.”
B Srinivas, a resident of Bachupally, added, “Since our area is surrounded by many industries, it is difficult to identify which one is causing the problem and whether it is authorized. Not just the air, even our groundwater is polluted. Sometimes, the drinking water we receive is brown in color and unfit for consumption. We have complained to the PCB, and they assured us that steps would be taken, but no real solutions have been provided yet.”
Residents are demanding immediate action from authorities to control pollution and ensure a safe living environment.
