State Government to Provide 25 Lakh Houses in Five Years Under Indiramma Housing Scheme
The Telangana government has announced plans to provide 25 lakh houses over the next five years as part of the Indiramma housing scheme. Starting December 6, the process to identify beneficiaries for the first phase will begin. In this phase, the government aims to build 4.5 lakh houses for people living in extreme poverty, with a budget of Rs 3,000 crore.
Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy launched a special mobile app to ensure a transparent selection process for beneficiaries. The app, powered by artificial intelligence, will help identify eligible candidates. In Phase I, 3,500 houses will be constructed in each Assembly constituency, with the government providing Rs 5 lakh per house through a green channel. The CM emphasized that landowners will be prioritized, with special focus on physically disabled individuals, agricultural laborers, sanitation workers, Dalits, tribals, widows, and transgenders.
The government has also announced a special quota for tribal communities in constituencies under the Integrated Tribal Development Agency (ITDA). Tribes such as the Chenchus in Nallamala, Gonds in Adilabad, and Koyas in Bhadrachalam will receive priority under this quota, ensuring fair distribution of houses to marginalized groups.
Highlighting the failures of the previous regime, the CM criticized the BRS government for its poor performance in housing projects. He noted that while the Congress government (2004–2014) built 25.04 lakh houses under the Indiramma scheme, the BRS government managed to complete only 65,000 houses under its much-hyped 2BHK scheme, many of which went to ineligible beneficiaries.
Revanth Reddy further accused the previous administration of neglecting the needs of the poor in favor of personal luxuries. He pointed out that while the BRS government focused on constructing high-end buildings like Pragati Bhavan and a new Secretariat for Vastu compliance, it failed to complete double-bedroom houses for the needy. The Congress government, he said, has now allocated Rs 195 crore to finish 35,000 incomplete houses left by the BRS.
The CM’s announcement marks a renewed focus on addressing housing needs for the underprivileged while ensuring transparency and fairness in the process.
