The Telangana State Drug Control Administration (DCA) recently seized two overpriced medicines, Vasfin ointment and Intracop-200 capsules. These medications had a Maximum Retail Price (MRP) on the label that exceeded the ceiling price set by the pricing regulatory authority of the Central government.
Vasfin Ointment (0.5 mg), manufactured by Dermiderm Biotech in Haryana and marketed by Vityl Pharmaceuticals in Hyderabad, was seized at Beeramguda, Ameenpur, Sangareddy. The ointment was being sold with an MRP of Rs 140 for a 5 gm tube, while the ceiling price for a 5 gm tube is Rs 113.6. This means that the company was charging customers an excess of Rs 26.40.
The DCA also seized Intracop-200 capsules for overpricing. These capsules had an MRP on the label that exceeded the ceiling price set by the Central government’s pricing regulatory authority. The actions were taken to prevent consumers from being charged more than the approved ceiling price for essential medications.
The DCA is committed to ensuring that pharmaceutical companies adhere to pricing regulations and do not overcharge consumers for essential medicines. The recent seizures of overpriced medications highlight the importance of monitoring and enforcing pricing guidelines to protect consumers from exploitation.
