Sridhar Babu announces plan to revive Nizam Sugar Factory in Jagtial by December 2025

The State government is committed to reopening the Nizam Sugar Factory (NSF), according to Minister D Sridhar Babu, who chairs the Sugar Factory Revival Committee. He made this promise during a meeting with sugarcane farmers at the NSF premises in Muthyampet mandal, chaired by MLC T Jeevan Reddy.

Babu mentioned that the government aims to deliver good news to sugarcane farmers by December 2025. He highlighted the need for 15,000 acres of sugarcane and 3.5 lakh metric tonnes to keep the factory running, with a profitable yield for farmers ranging from 60-70 tonnes. The government plans to provide farmers with scientific varieties to support their efforts.

The Minister explained that the factory has bank debts of Rs 90 crore, but revival would not be a problem if local farmers cooperate. He reassured farmers of the government’s dedication to reopening the factory under either public or private management. Members of the revival committee also inspected the factory.

During his speech, MLC Reddy blamed the factory’s closure on the negligence of the previous government. He assured farmers of continued support from the new government and emphasized the importance of keeping spirits high. The committee was formed after promises to revive the factory made during a ‘padayatra’ and a visit to NSF after coming into power.

Reddy expressed concern over sugarcane farmers facing losses and seeking employment abroad due to the factory’s closure. He believed that reviving the factory would create job opportunities for locals and unemployed farmers. He urged the minister to allocate Rs. 1,000 crore for reviving the sugar factory.
