Sports Competitions Organized to Celebrate Sankranti in Wanaparthy

In Wanaparthy District, the police department hosted sports competitions on Monday under the banner “Jana Maitri” to mark the Sankranti festival. The events took place at the district SP office grounds, with the District Collector attending as the chief guest. SP Ravula Giridhar and Additional Collector for Local Bodies Sanchit Gangwar officially inaugurated the competitions. To symbolize peace, pigeons and balloons were released into the sky. The games kicked off with a toss, followed by cricket, volleyball, and badminton matches. Participants even enjoyed playing cricket and volleyball for a short while.

During the event, the District Collector emphasized the importance of sports in building a friendly connection between the police and the public. He highlighted how sports contribute to both physical and mental health and encouraged the youth to engage in sports during their free time instead of adopting unhealthy habits. The Collector also noted that playing sports helps prevent diseases like diabetes and hypertension. He urged everyone to take part in the ongoing tournament at the SP office grounds.

SP Ravula Giridhar spoke about breaking the fear barrier between the public and the police. He assured that the police are approachable and friendly, encouraging people to interact with them without hesitation. The SP explained that organizing such sports events fosters trust and cooperation between the police and the community. Additionally, he called on the public to support police efforts in reducing crime.

The event saw active participation from AR Additional SP Veera Reddy, DSPs Venkateswara Rao and Uma Maheshwara Rao, District Youth Sports Officer Sudheer Reddy, as well as police personnel, players, other officials, and members of the community.
