Former Minister Criticizes Congress Government Over Farmer Issues

On Saturday, Niranjan Reddy visited the local agricultural market yard, accompanied by BRS district leader Basu Hanumanthu Naidu and other party officials. They inspected groundnut crops and interacted with farmers to understand their challenges. Later, he addressed a press conference at the BRS district office.

“Congress Has Failed Farmers,” Says Niranjan Reddy

During the press conference, Niranjan Reddy criticized the Congress government for its poor handling of the agricultural sector. He contrasted the Congress’s approach with that of the previous BRS government, stating that BRS had always supported farmers. In stark contrast, he said, the Congress government’s incompetence has caused widespread suffering and an alarming rise in farmer suicides.

“In just 423 days, over 412 farmers have tragically taken their own lives,” Niranjan Reddy alleged. He accused the Congress government of failing to provide irrigation water for crops and showing a lack of commitment to farmers’ welfare.

He also criticized the government for cutting funds to the Rythu Bandhu scheme and delaying the implementation of promised programs, calling their actions anti-farmer.

Groundnut Farmers Struggling Below MSP

Niranjan Reddy highlighted the struggles of groundnut farmers in the district, who are being forced to sell their produce below the Minimum Support Price (MSP) of ₹6783 per quintal. He pointed out that during the BRS government’s tenure, prices offered to farmers were consistently above the MSP, showcasing the party’s genuine concern for the agricultural community.

He reaffirmed the BRS party’s commitment to supporting farmers and ensuring that all promises made to them during elections are kept.

Support from Local Leaders

The event was attended by several senior BRS leaders, including Nagardoddi Venkat Ramulu, former District Library Chairman Patel Vishnuvardhan Reddy, Patel Janardhan Reddy, and others. Local party leaders and youth members also joined to show their support for farmers and the cause championed by Niranjan Reddy.
