Pregnant women in Bhadrachalam Area Hospital are facing difficulties due to a shortage of gynecologists. This has resulted in a lack of institutional deliveries, forcing women to seek medical assistance elsewhere. Women from different districts and even neighboring states like Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and Odisha come to this hospital for treatment. Despite having advanced facilities, the hospital is unable to meet the needs of the people due to a shortage of doctors and staff.

The hospital only has one gynecologist, which means pregnant women are not receiving sufficient attention and treatment. The limited staff struggle to handle the high influx of patients, especially women. Ideally, the hospital should have eight gynecologists to meet the current requirements. This decline in the number of gynecologists has affected the hospital’s ranking, which was previously known for having the highest number of deliveries in the state.

Efforts are being made to appoint two additional gynecologists, according to hospital superintendent Dr. RamaKrishna. He has already brought this issue to the attention of ITDA PO Prateek Jain, who has requested the District Collector Dr. Priyanka Ala to address the shortage. Dr. Priyanka Ala has assured that interviews will be conducted soon to appoint doctors at the Area Hospital.

MLA Podem Veeraiah has demanded that the government take action to address the difficulties faced by women patients, especially pregnant women. He criticized the BRS government for neglecting public health in the agency and claimed that he had raised this issue multiple times in the assembly and directly to the government. Tribal leader M. Ramesh also demanded immediate appointment of gynecologists at the Area Hospital, as women in the agency are unable to afford private hospital deliveries.
