Protesters in Pakistan have stormed the army headquarters in Rawalpindi and burned down the Corps Commander’s house in Lahore. The violent protests followed the arrest of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf chairman Imran Khan on May 9th. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif blames Khan for the violence and said that Khan “maligned and attacked the armed forces and the sitting Army chief.” Sharif asked the authorities to arrest those involved in violence and bring them to justice. The incidents of May 9th are described as the “darkest chapter” in Pakistan’s history. Scores of arrests have been made to bring all those responsible for attacks on civilian and military installations to justice.
