Union Home Minister Amit Shah has urged G20 member countries to work together in order to combat cybercrime. Speaking at the ‘G20 Conference on Crime and Security in the Age of NFTs, AI & Metaverse’, Shah highlighted the various threats posed by cyber criminals, including the use of darknet, metaverse, deepfakes, ransomware, and misinformation campaigns. He emphasized that these activities have a direct impact on national security, law and order, and the economy.

Shah stated that it is important for the G20 to shift its focus from digital transformation and data flow to addressing crime and security issues. He called for measures such as uniformity in laws across countries, developing response mechanisms, harmonizing benchmarks and regulations, and enhancing coordination among cyber agencies. He stressed the need for an integrated and stable approach to cybersecurity policies, which would facilitate information sharing and protect critical infrastructure.

To effectively combat cybercrime, Shah emphasized the importance of sharing real-time cyber threat intelligence among member countries, with support from industry and academia. He warned that while technology has brought people and countries closer, there are also anti-social elements and global forces that exploit technology for economic and social harm.

In conclusion, Shah urged G20 member countries to rise above geographical boundaries and work together to tackle cybercrime, as it poses a significant threat to national security and the well-being of citizens.
