A group of tech professionals and young individuals in Hyderabad are working to set up libraries in neglected government schools, particularly in rural areas. They aim to provide educational resources to underprivileged students who otherwise lack access to books. Vinay Vangla, an IT professional who started the initiative, recognized the decline in children’s reading habits and the importance of books in acquiring knowledge. After receiving requests on Twitter from district government schools seeking assistance, Vinay reached out to the headmaster of a government primary school in Nirmal and launched a collection drive with the support of like-minded individuals from the Gated Community My Homes. The drive successfully gathered approximately 400 books, enabling the group to establish a small library in the school and fill four racks. Witnessing the joyous smiles on the students’ faces was incredibly rewarding, as they now have the opportunity to explore a wide range of books. Encouraged by this positive outcome, the group plans to expand their efforts and set up libraries in other district government schools in the coming days.
