SEEPC Survey Begins in City, Sparking Unease Among Households

Hyderabad: The Telangana State government has started a major door-to-door survey across the Greater Hyderabad region. This survey aims to gather detailed information about the socio-economic, educational, employment, political, and caste-related conditions of all households. On Wednesday, over 22,000 surveyors and supervisors began visiting more than 29 lakh (2.9 million) houses across the area.

When the surveyors visited homes on the first day, many residents were initially worried after seeing the long survey forms with over 70 questions. However, the survey teams took the time to explain the process and reassure people, which helped ease their concerns.

Most heads of households were prepared with their Aadhaar cards, ration cards, and other documents when the surveyors arrived. The enumerators visited a few houses, conducted the survey, and placed a sticker on the door of each home they completed. They interacted with the head of the family to collect personal and household information.

A surveyor working in Shalibanda explained that the survey is divided into two parts, featuring 56 main questions and 19 supplementary ones. These questions cover a wide range of topics, including family details, education, employment, assets, and caste status. The surveyor added that some residents were anxious about answering these questions, but with the help of local leaders, they were able to clarify doubts and proceed with the survey.

The Telangana government launched this state-wide survey in 2024 to gain a better understanding of the socio-economic conditions of its citizens. On Wednesday, the official ceremony to begin the survey in the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) area was led by Minister for Transport and BC Welfare, Ponnam Prabhakar. He was joined by Mayor Gadwal Vijayalakshmi, Hyderabad District Collector Anudeep Durishetti, and Deputy Mayor Srilatha Shobhan Reddy.

Minister Ponnam Prabhakar urged citizens not to have any misunderstandings about the survey and encouraged everyone to provide the required information without hesitation. He explained that the data gathered would help the government create better schemes for eligible beneficiaries in the future. He also assured that the information would remain confidential and would help address social inequalities.

According to GHMC, a total of 20,920 enumerators and 1,728 supervisors have been appointed for the survey of 29,58,277 houses in the city. The surveyors will ask questions about caste, employment, education benefits, land ownership, loans, and more. They will also inquire about government schemes residents have benefited from, such as reservations for SCs, STs, BCs, and EBCs, as well as details on migration and political involvement.

Mayor Gadwal Vijayalakshmi called on residential welfare associations, NGOs, public representatives, and citizens from all walks of life to support and contribute to the success of the survey.
