Secunderabad Cantonment MLA Sriganesh held a meeting today with Secunderabad Cantonment CEO Shri Madhukar Naik and members of the Parliamentary Standing Committee, including Shri Prasad Chauhan. The purpose of the meeting was to address several important issues affecting the region.

One of the main topics discussed was the long-overdue Cantonment Board elections. These elections have not been held since 2015, and the MLA pointed out that their continued delay has led to governance problems. Originally, the elections were expected to happen in 2020, but constant postponements have caused disruptions. Sriganesh urged that the elections be conducted quickly and proposed that the cantonment area be merged with the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) to improve administration.

Sriganesh also touched on the need for better financial management in the cantonment area. He suggested that the cantonment board should start collecting taxes on commercial buildings owned by the cantonment to raise additional funds. He also called for the release of pending service charges, which amount to Rs 900 crore, to help support these initiatives.

Another key issue raised by the MLA was about land allocation. He mentioned that the Congress government, led by Revanth Reddy, had requested appropriate land within the cantonment for building an integrated residential school.

In addition to these concerns, Chief Minister Revanth Reddy has advocated for an increase in the water supply to the region. The current supply of 5.9 million gallons per day (MGD) is not enough, and he proposed that it be increased to 6.9 MGD to better serve the residents. This issue was discussed in detail with OSD Ajith Reddy, Cantonment CEO Madhukar Naik, and Water Works MD Ashok Reddy.

In a positive development, Sriganesh thanked the Cantonment CEO for agreeing to provide discounts on water bills and working towards a one-time settlement scheme for outstanding payments. This move is expected to reduce the financial strain on residents.
