Hyderabad: Be Cautious While Flying Kites Near Railways This Sankranti

The South Central Railway (SCR) has issued a safety advisory ahead of the Sankranti festival. The public has been urged to avoid flying kites near railway traction lines during the celebrations.

SCR officials highlighted that during last year’s Sankranti festival, there were several incidents where people suffered electric shocks or were electrocuted. These accidents occurred when kite strings became tangled in the 25kV overhead traction wires used by Indian Railways.

A major concern is the use of Chinese-manufactured kite threads, which are made of conductive materials. These threads can carry electricity, creating a significant danger to both people and the railway’s electrical systems.

To prevent such incidents, SCR is asking passengers and the public to stay vigilant. If anyone sees kite threads hanging from railway overhead wires, they should immediately report it to the railway authorities. Trained personnel will then safely remove the threads to avoid any accidents.

Stay safe and celebrate responsibly this Sankranti!
