Hyderabad: The South Central Railway (SCR) has achieved a new record in freight loading. It transported 144.140 million tonnes of goods in the 2024-25 financial year. This is a 2% increase compared to its previous record of 141.120 million tonnes set in 2023-24.
The railway zone also earned higher freight revenue this year. It made ₹13,825 crore, which is again a 2% increase from last year’s ₹13,620 crore.
According to SCR officials, this improvement was possible due to special efforts made to upgrade infrastructure and improve the working environment at freight terminals. They also worked on enhancing goods sheds.
Officials noted that growth was seen in all types of goods transported. Coal remained the largest item carried, with 70.147 million tonnes moved in 2024-25. This is slightly less than the 70.510 million tonnes of coal carried in the previous year.
