An NGO called the India Literacy Project is helping schools in Telangana improve their science education. Many government schools do not have proper science laboratories, so the NGO has created a solution called the Science Lab in a Box, or science kit. They have also established digital classrooms in government schools. The NGO’s objective is to provide comprehensive training to both teachers and students so they can effectively use the digital systems. They have already implemented this program in 1300 government schools across Telangana.
The Science kit is important because many government school students do not have access to proper science laboratories. The science kits aim to cultivate an interest in science among these students by connecting theoretical concepts to real-world applications. These kits provide a conducive space for children to observe, comprehend, experiment, and engage in discussions regarding various scientific phenomena and their surroundings. The science kits align with the curriculum outlined by the National Council of Educational Research and Training for grades 5-10.
So far, the NGO has distributed science kits and conducted training sessions for 284 teachers and 3000 students across 54 government schools. Each kit includes a comprehensive manual with detailed instructions on how to use its contents effectively. The NGO’s dedicated volunteers also visit schools to provide hands-on training to both teachers and students.
