Scammers profiting from 'counterfeit Congress guarantee cards'

Within days of the Congress taking power, fraudsters have started scamming people by promising the party’s six guarantees during the Assembly elections. They are using digital technology and QR codes to issue fake guarantee cards in exchange for a fee. These cards are being presented as similar to ration cards or Aadhar cards.

To get the fake guarantee cards, people are asked to scan a QR code with their mobile numbers, which leads them to an online application. They have to fill in their details, including their name and mobile number, and those who are interested will receive printed cards with their information.

Instances of these fake guarantee cards have been reported in Shadnagar, as well as in the constituencies of Bahadurpura and Goshamahal in Hyderabad. Congress candidates who discovered their photographed fake cards immediately reported the issue to the local police.

In Shadnagar, MLA Veerlapally Shankar found that these racketeers were selling the fake guarantee cards for Rs 100-500 each. The police took the suspects into custody from the local Mee Seva centers after being alerted about the issue.

Bahadurpura candidate Rajesh Kumar Pulapati expressed surprise and concern about the fraudsters selling cards with no legitimacy. He mentioned that complaints have been lodged by Goshamahal candidate Sunitha Rao and Shadnagar MLA, and they plan to complain to the police as well.

According to Rajesh, brokers are creating fake guarantee cards with Congress candidates’ photos using Mee Seva and online centers. They are selling these cards for Rs 100-500 and ensuring their authenticity by having people scan a QR code generated by them.

The party has lodged a complaint with the Director-General of Police (DGP), urging them to take action against those behind the scam and alert police throughout the state. They also requested that Mee Seva centers be issued notices to prevent people from falling prey to these fake guarantee cards.
