Hyderabad: Health Minister T Harish Rao has introduced Pacho Machines to help with quick eye surgeries. These machines, similar to ultrasound technology, will be used for cataract surgeries. The government has purchased 12 machines at a cost of Rs 28.85 lakh each. Two machines will be used at Sarojini Devi Eye Hospital, while the remaining nine will be distributed to various districts in the state. The government has spent a total of Rs 3.46 crore on these machines. Cataract operations, which usually cost between Rs 30,000 to Rs 40,000, will now be provided free of charge in government hospitals.

The Health Minister commended the department staff for successfully screening 1.62 crore people in just 100 days under the Kanti Velugu program. As a result, 25% of the population received reading glasses and 18.08 lakh people were given prescription glasses.
