'Chappal Chor' Gang Strikes in Hyderabad
In a strange incident, a gang known as the ‘chappal chor’ (slipper thieves) targeted multiple flats in Moosarambagh. They stole dozens of slippers, sandals, and shoes from four apartment buildings. Even two police officers were not spared, as their uniform shoes were taken. Residents were shocked on Thursday morning when they found their footwear missing.
When more people from nearby flats realized their shoes had also disappeared, they decided to check the CCTV footage. The recordings showed a group arriving in an auto rickshaw during the night and stealing footwear from outside the apartments.
The footage clearly captured the thieves entering the apartment complex and leaving with various shoes. Among those affected were a police inspector and a sub-inspector, whose uniform shoes were stolen. Following the incident, a complaint was filed at the Malakpet police station, and an investigation was launched.
This is not the first time such an incident has occurred. In February, a thief stole a doctor’s shoes from Yashoda Hospital in Somajiguda. CCTV footage showed the thief leaving the hospital wearing ten pairs of shoes.
A similar case was reported in December last year. In Vasavi Nagar, Uppal, a couple was caught stealing branded footwear from residential areas and selling them in weekly markets. Residents, who had been noticing missing shoes for a while, searched the couple’s house and found a large collection of stolen footwear. The couple was allegedly stealing shoes at night and selling them at a market in Borabanda.
