Hyderabad will celebrate its 76th year of independence on Tuesday. The government’s ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign has encouraged people to bring the national flag home, leading to an increase in flag sales. The city is filled with patriotic spirit as Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav comes to a close.
The ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign aims to promote the celebration of Independence Day by hoisting the national flag at home. This has resulted in a higher demand for flags, with traders experiencing an increase in orders and sales.
Flags and badges are being sold by roadside traders at markets and major junctions. Risala Bazaar market, Mozamjahi Market, and Secunderabad General Bazar are bustling with activity as people flock to purchase decoration items, national flags, and tri-color badges.
According to shopkeepers, the demand for flags has significantly increased since last year’s Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav celebrations and the ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign. Educational institutions and offices are buying flags in bulk, as if preparing for rallies and marches on Independence Day. The price of flags has also gone up due to increased demand from government agencies for national and state-level celebrations.
Children at Risala Bazar are buying materials to decorate their classrooms, while sweet shops are receiving special orders for khara and mithai packets. Self-help group employees in Amberpet have taken up the task of making flags, providing employment opportunities for women.
The Department of Posts is selling national flags for only Rs 25 at post offices as part of the campaign. They have received a positive response, and many corporate houses and officials are also participating in the celebrations.
