The USS Gerald R. Ford aircraft carrier, the world’s biggest warship, arrived in Oslo for a stopover before heading to the Arctic for military exercises. The ship will remain in the Norwegian capital for several days. The visit was criticized by Russia as an “illogical and harmful” show of force. Norway, a NATO member, shares a land border with Russia as well as a maritime border in the Barents Sea. The Norwegian military said the visit provides an opportunity to develop cooperation with the United States. The Russian embassy denounced the visit, stating that there are no issues in the North that require a military solution or outside intervention.
