Hyderabad: Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy helped rescue a camel herder named Rathod Namdev from Saudi Arabia.
Rathod, a tribal man from Ruvi village in Mudhol mandal, Nirmal district, had gone to Kuwait on a domestic work visa. However, his employer sold him and sent him to Saudi Arabia to work as a camel herder in the desert near the Kuwait-Saudi border.
Rathod was being mistreated by his employer and sent a selfie video to the Chief Minister, asking for help. The video quickly gained attention on social media.
The Chief Minister responded immediately and told officials to take action. The Telangana GAD (NRI) department and State Mineral Development Corporation Chairman E. Anil worked with Indian embassies in Kuwait and Saudi Arabia to rescue Rathod. The Ministry of External Affairs in Delhi also helped with the process to bring him home.
The efforts of the Saudi Arabian Telugu Association (SATA) were also praised for their role in the rescue.
After returning home, Rathod and his family met with the Chief Minister to express their gratitude for saving him from the abusive employer.
