The Assembly in Hyderabad witnessed a heated discussion between Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy and All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen leader Akbaruddin Owaisi. The discussion became chaotic as their party legislators got involved.
During the discussion on the ‘Telangana State Energy Sector- White Paper’, Akbaruddin Owaisi listed out the power works done in the old city and requested for more funds. Congress member Kambampally Satyanarayana questioned why the MIM, who is friendly with the government, couldn’t secure funds. Akbaruddin responded by saying that the MLA should have wisdom. This comment caused objections from Congress members, and the Legislative Affairs Minister asked the Speaker to remove the comment from the records.
Chief Minister Revanth Reddy intervened and stated that despite being a newly elected member, Satyanarayana deserved respect. He emphasized that seniority doesn’t grant extra power and every member should respect one another. He added that the government treats both the old and new cities equally.
Revanth Reddy accused the MIM of ensuring the defeat of a Congress candidate by fielding a Muslim candidate in Jubilee Hills. He also mentioned that Owaisi’s friend, KCR, contested in Kamareddy to defeat another Muslim candidate. Revanth Reddy emphasized that Owaisi should note that even Hindus had voted for him, and he represented four crore people. He criticized Owaisi for insulting a Dalit MLA and raised concerns about high distribution losses in Sircilla, Gajwel, and the old city.
Revanth Reddy further criticized Owaisi for praising the previous BRS government instead of discussing the topic at hand. He questioned why Owaisi was trying to defend his friend who had made a mistake. Revanth Reddy stated that it was the responsibility of the Congress party to protect the interests of minorities and highlighted their contribution in providing 4% reservation.
In response, Akbaruddin clarified that he was not the minority cell leader of any party and explained the decision to field a candidate in Jubilee Hills. He also reassured that the MIM would never align with the BJP, mentioning their opposition to the demolition of Babri Masjid.
When Revanth Reddy pointed out MIM’s alliances with previous governments, Akbaruddin Owaisi mentioned their alliance with Congress due to YS Rajasekhara Reddy’s efforts in securing 4% reservations for Muslims.
