Commodore A Madhavarao (Retd.) has become the Chairman and Managing Director of Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL). He has been with BDL since March 2020 and was previously the Executive Director and Director (Technical) with additional responsibilities as Director (Production).

Commodore Madhavarao has an impressive educational background, with degrees in Electrical Engineering, Electronics & Telecommunication, Defence Studies, Finance, and Management Studies. He has had a successful career in the Indian Navy for over 30 years.

During his time at BDL, Commodore Madhavarao played a crucial role in establishing a Product Support Group for the Indian Armed Forces, improving research and development activities, and creating an efficient supply chain. He also contributed to the development of infrastructure in BDL to support the manufacturing of advanced missiles. His efforts in signing contracts with the Indian Armed Forces/Ministry of Defence and other foreign countries have significantly contributed to the company’s current order book.

In the Indian Navy, Commodore Madhavarao participated in important operations like ‘Kargil’ and ‘Parakram’. He was involved in setting up the Nuclear Safety organization for Nuclear Submarines and played a key role in the induction of Nuclear Submarine Chakra. He also served on three frontline ships and held key positions in strategic planning and policy-making.

Commodore Madhavarao has extensive experience with Naval Dockyards, including serving as the General Manager Technical at Naval Dockyard Visakhapatnam. He was responsible for preparing long-term plans for dockyard modernization.

As a member of BDL’s top management and the Indian Navy, Commodore Madhavarao has shown exceptional leadership in supporting defense programs under ‘Make-in-India’ initiatives, benefiting both the company and the nation.
