Hyderabad is getting ready to celebrate the Bakrid (Eid-ul-Adha) festival on June 17. The city is busy with preparations as Hyderabadis gear up for Eid, which falls on the 10th day of the Islamic month of Zil-Hijjah. The Hyderabad police have increased security measures to ensure the smooth conduct of the festival and have asked people to follow government guidelines.
Traders have set up stalls in various areas like Falaknuma, Chandrayangutta, Barkas, and more. They are selling pairs of sheep for prices ranging from Rs 28,000 to Rs 30,000, depending on the size and breed. Prices are expected to decrease on the second and third days of Eid. Authorities have cleaned and decorated idgahs across the city where Eid prayers are held.
The practice of using ‘Qurbani services’ is becoming popular in the city, where Muslim families can have agencies handle the sacrificial process for them. This option has gained popularity during the pandemic, especially among residents of flats and gated communities. Maulana Mohammed Rizwan Qureshi emphasized the importance of sacrificing animals that meet specific age and health criteria.
To ensure safety during the festival, the police have increased security in Hyderabad, deploying around 1,400 policemen in key locations. Checkpoints have been set up to check necessary documents for cattle transport. Security has been heightened in sensitive areas, with police stationed at pickets and SHOs monitoring activities in their jurisdictions.
South Zone DCP Sneha Mehra urged everyone to celebrate Eid within the guidelines provided by the government and department. Proper disposal of waste material after animal sacrifices is crucial to keep the city clean and prevent the spread of diseases. Measures have been put in place at masjids to ensure peaceful completion of prayers during the festival.
