Telangana had a huge amount of liquor consumption as the year 2023 came to an end, with record sales in the last three days of December. The sales during this time reached over Rs 650 crore in the state.
According to the Excise department, the sales in the last three days of the year were Rs 658 crore. These sales exceeded expectations, as event organizers stocked up on liquor for clubs and pubs. Wine shops remained open until midnight on December 31, and depots also stayed open on Sunday to meet the anticipated high demand. On December 30 alone, sales exceeded Rs 300 crore.
In Telangana, liquor sales typically increase during Dasara and New Year’s Eve. This year, sales began to rise on December 29 and continued until December 31. The state has 2,620 wine shops and over 1,000 bars and restaurants. On December 29, approximately 164,000 cases of liquor and 200,000 cases of beer were sold. On December 30, three lakh cases of liquor and 2.91 lakh cases of beer were sold. The total revenue during these two days was around Rs 314 to Rs 315 crore. Overall, the total sales during the three days amounted to Rs 3,834 crore. In the month of December alone, sales surpassed Rs 4,000 crore. Both liquor and beer sales were high in Telangana, with the Excise department earning Rs 215.74 crore on December 31 last year.
