Residents of Nizampet in Hyderabad still plagued by manholes and potholes

Manholes and potholes are a big problem in the Nizampet Municipal Corporation (NMC), which is one of the fastest growing suburbs in Hyderabad. Despite being the third richest urban local body, the municipality lacks basic civic amenities. Potholes and manholes have not been fixed even after recent rains, and this became evident when a four-year-old boy was washed away in a manhole and his body was found three days later. The negligence of the municipal staff has caused major accidents, including the death of an eight-year-old student who was hit by a speeding school bus. Local residents have complained that the officials have not made any effort to repair the lanes.

Residents of Nizampet face daily hardships due to poor road conditions. Even after the incident with the boy, the concerned officials have not covered the drains. The main issue is that the residents need to meet the commissioner for every problem, as the junior officers are not interested in solving issues. The roads in Nizampet are an eyesore, with mud and stormwater filling the stretches. The lanes are also poorly illuminated, making it difficult to walk. The roads suffer more damage with every rain, and temporary solutions like covering them with sand are ineffective. The residents have made numerous complaints to the NMC, but no permanent measures have been taken.

The bad roads and open drains have become death traps for the locals, leading to fatal accidents. Despite posting issues on Twitter, the concerned officials have not responded. It is crucial for them to take action by covering the drains and repairing the roads to ensure the safety of the residents.
