Residents of Jalpally in Rangareddy district initiate road and sewerage works independently

Blaming the municipality for not providing basic amenities, people in different wards of Jalpally are taking matters into their own hands. They are using their own money to carry out road and sewerage works. One example is Abubakar Colony in Ward No.2, where locals built their own sewerage system. Another incident occurred in Sadat Colony near Khaja Bakery in Ward No.17, where locals took up sewerage line work after finding that the municipal authorities were only laying roads without considering the sewerage line.

A.Prashanti Sridhar Goud, councilor of Ward No.17, Jalpally municipality, confirmed this. He said that they had brought the issue of road approval without a sewerage line to the attention of the municipal authorities and the Minister of Education, Sabitha Indra Reddy, but received no response. The locals managed to get manhole lids from the municipality, but they had to purchase pipes themselves and bear the cost of labor charges. Ghousuddin Shaik, a resident, criticized the municipal authorities for ignoring the existing manholes on the street.

Earlier this year, the people of Abubakar Colony in Ward No.2 also built their own sewerage system due to the lack of concern from the municipal authorities. They decided to contribute their own money to collect Rs.1.5 lakhs and secure 47 pipes for the sewerage line. They also filled potholes with 50 trucks of earthen material to level the surface properly. This was their way of building their own sewerage system when they couldn’t get help from the municipality officials.
