The Enforcement Directorate (ED) recently searched the residence of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Member of Parliament (MP) Sanjay Singh in Delhi. The AAP claims that these searches are a result of Singh’s inquiries into the roles of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and industrialist Gautam Adani.
The ED’s search is part of an ongoing investigation into a money laundering case related to the alleged Delhi excise policy scandal. In response, AAP spokesperson Reena Gupta stated that the raids were conducted because Singh was raising questions about PM Modi and Adani. She also expressed confidence that nothing would be found.
Various political figures have commented on this situation. Rashtriya Janata Dal MP Manoj Jha called it unfortunate but not surprising, suggesting that these raids will continue until the 2024 elections. Singh’s father, on the other hand, expressed cooperation with the probe agency’s actions.
The allegations in this case revolve around the Delhi government’s excise policy for 2021-22, which reportedly favored specific dealers involved in bribery. The AAP has vehemently denied these claims.
The searches occurred a day after a Delhi court allowed two individuals accused in the case to become approvers. They were granted pardon on the condition that they fully cooperate with the investigation and provide all relevant information.
Earlier in May, the ED had questioned staff members of Singh and individuals associated with him in connection to the same case.
