Report: Paris Saint-Germain's Ligue 1 Giants to Part Ways with Lionel Messi at Season's End

Lionel Messi, the football player who joined Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) in 2021, will be leaving the team at the end of this season. This decision was communicated by Messi’s father to PSG football advisor Luis Campos a few weeks ago. Messi signed a two-year deal with PSG in 2021 but he and the club have no plans to renew it.

The Argentine World Cup winner believes that PSG’s financial budget will be limited next season to comply with the Financial Fair Play rules. Messi has been suspended by PSG for two weeks after travelling to Saudi Arabia without the club’s consent. In 71 games for PSG, Messi has scored 31 goals and contributed 34 assists in all competitions. He also won the Ligue 1 with PSG last season. With this suspension, Messi will be missing the matches against Troyes and Ajaccio.

PSG are currently five points clear at the top of Ligue 1 table and look set to win their ninth title in 11 seasons. Messi is also a frontrunner to win an eighth Ballon d’Or in October. He is a tourism ambassador for Saudi Arabia and was welcomed by the Minister of Tourism in Saudi Arabia on his recent trip there. The Minister also posted photos of Messi and his family visiting the country.
