Hyderabad: People who were moved because of the Musi River Rehabilitation project are facing serious problems after relocating to new homes. On Saturday night, they moved into new 2BHK flats in a government housing complex in Chanchalguda. However, the existing residents there damaged their belongings, which led to protests.
The situation got worse on Saturday night in the Saidabad-Malakpet area. The relocated families were not allowed to enter the housing complex, and some of their property was destroyed by the current residents. This led them to protest, and the Hyderabad police had to step in to keep things calm.
On Friday, government officials gave the keys to the new flats to the families who lived near the Musi River. But after being rejected from the complex, many of these families were left homeless. Some were seen crying and asking for help. One woman even fainted while shouting for someone to assist them.
A man named Mohammed Iqbal, who lives in Shankar Nagar, shared his experience. He said that while his family was moving into their flat, the existing residents told them to leave and damaged their things. The residents claimed that since they had lived there for 30 years, no one else should live in the flats. Iqbal and his family left and went back to their old home.
On Sunday morning, officials helped Iqbal and others move back into the complex again, promising them protection. Another resident, Fatima Begum, voiced her frustration. She said that they gave their homes to the government in exchange for the 2BHK flats, but when they were moving in, they were attacked. Now, she is unsure about their safety.
Sources say many of the flats in the complex have been empty since it was opened because the government had not yet given them to the beneficiaries. However, some people on a waiting list for the flats protested against the new families moving into the area.
