Hyderabad: A tragic accident occurred during Ramzan shopping in Charminar when a part of the slab roof of an arch collapsed. The incident took place on Thursday night at a heritage shopping complex in Pathergatti’s Machili Kaman. At least seven people, including four women, were injured.

The Charminar area, particularly Machili Kaman, is a well-known shopping hub, especially during the festive season. The accident happened in front of Anand Bhawan in Pathergatti Kaman when the marketplace was crowded with shoppers.

This incident has raised serious concerns about public safety and the responsibility of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) in maintaining historical structures. Many are questioning whether proper precautions were taken to prevent such mishaps.

Upon receiving the news, Charminar MLA Mir Zulfiqar Ali and Pathergatti Corporator Syed Sohail Quadri visited the site. The MLA informed that four injured individuals were taken to Osmania General Hospital, while others were shifted to Asra Hospital. The victims were passing through the area when the slab collapsed.

MLA Zulfiqar Ali blamed the authorities for using improper stucco in the repair work, which led to the collapse. He urged the GHMC Commissioner, who also oversees the Quli Qutb Shah Urban Development Authority (QQSUDA), to take strict action against those responsible. He also pointed out that similar accidents had happened before and questioned the quality of materials used in the restoration work.

He emphasized that the government is spending crores of rupees to restore heritage buildings, and any negligence in repairs must be addressed. He called for accountability to prevent further incidents.

Meanwhile, Charminar police arrived at the scene quickly and helped shift the injured to hospitals for treatment.
