Railway Police hosts workshop to raise awareness about human trafficking

A workshop on anti-human trafficking was recently held in Hyderabad to bring together stakeholders in the fight against this terrible crime. The event, organized by the Railway Protection Force (RPF) in partnership with BachpanBachaoAndolan (BBA) and Government Railway Police (GRP), aimed to raise awareness about the issue.

During the workshop, a booklet on Anti-Human Trafficking was launched specifically for use by the RPF and GRP. The booklet emphasizes the importance of taking proactive measures to address human trafficking, and it will be distributed to 60 RPF Anti-Human Trafficking units and 06 GRP Anti Human Trafficking units in the South Central Railway region.

The workshop took place at Sanchalan Bhavan in Secunderabad and was attended by prominent figures such as Mahesh Bhagwat, ADGP/Railways, IG-Principal Chief Security Commissioner, Railway Protection Force, South Central Railway Aroma Singh Thakur, and others.

The event highlighted the successful efforts of RPF South Central Railway in combating human trafficking. In 2022, 46 children were rescued and 9 traffickers were arrested. In 2023, 507 children were rescued and 184 traffickers were apprehended, with the RPF Secunderabad Division alone rescuing 317 children and arresting 131 traffickers.

The workshop provided a platform for stakeholders to discuss and share knowledge on combating human trafficking through coordinated efforts. The RPF has signed MoUs with BachpanBachaoAndolan and the National Commission for Women to strengthen their anti-human trafficking initiatives.

Debashmita C Banerjee, Senior Divisional Security Commissioner, Secunderabad Division, highlighted the measures taken by the RPF to combat human trafficking, including deploying dedicated Anti Human Trafficking units at railway stations, installing CCTV cameras, and conducting awareness campaigns. The Anti-Human Trafficking Unit booklet will serve as a comprehensive resource for all stakeholders involved in anti-human trafficking operations over SCR.
