Road Safety Awareness Program Held in Raichur
A Road Safety Awareness Month event took place today at Ambedkar Circle, Raichur, at 11:00 AM. The program was a joint effort by the Woman’s Doctors Wing IMA Raichur, IMA Raichur, RIMS, and the Raichur Traffic Police Department. With the themes “Sadak Suraksha, Jeevan Raksha” and “Be a Road Safety Hero,” the event aimed to educate the public about the importance of road safety.
The program brought together health professionals, traffic police, and local residents to discuss ways to make roads safer. Key attendees included Dr. Priya Bhalki, Secretary of Woman’s Doctors Wing IMA Raichur; Dr. Sushrit A. Neelopant, Secretary of IMA Raichur; Dr. Nagaraja Bhalki; and Dr. Shilpa Jayprakash. Traffic Police PSI Venkatesh and his team were also present to support the initiative.
One of the highlights of the event was a road safety skit performed by RIMS medical students. The skit demonstrated the dangers of reckless driving and the consequences of ignoring traffic rules. It was a powerful visual reminder of how road accidents can impact people both emotionally and physically.
In addition to the skit, the event included discussions and presentations on road safety strategies. Attendees were encouraged to adopt safe driving habits, such as wearing helmets, fastening seatbelts, obeying speed limits, and avoiding mobile phone use while driving.
Dr. Priya Bhalki emphasized the importance of community involvement in road safety. “Road safety is everyone’s responsibility. By making small changes to our behavior, we can save lives,” she said. Dr. Sushrit A. Neelopant added that healthcare professionals have a key role in addressing road-related injuries and stressed the importance of prevention over treatment.
Traffic Police PSI Venkatesh highlighted the role of the police in maintaining road safety but noted that public cooperation is essential. He urged citizens to practice responsible driving and help create a safer road environment for all.
The event drew a large crowd, including students, commuters, and local residents, who actively participated in discussions about road safety. Informative pamphlets and safety tips were distributed to further promote awareness.
Towards the end of the program, participants took a collective pledge to work toward safer roads under the motto “A Step Towards a Safer Tomorrow.” The pledge symbolized the community’s commitment to reducing road accidents and fostering responsible driving habits.
This initiative by the Woman’s Doctors Wing IMA Raichur, IMA Raichur, RIMS, and the Traffic Police Department serves as a strong reminder of the importance of road safety. Through such programs, the community of Raichur is taking meaningful steps toward creating a safer and more secure environment for everyone on the roads.
