Rahul Gandhi believes that this initiative could influence the upcoming Assembly elections in states like Jharkhand and Maharashtra. He will attend a meeting on the caste census organized by the Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC). During this meeting, he will provide guidelines on the Congress party’s position regarding the caste census. Rahul Gandhi has repeatedly emphasized that, for the Congress party, the caste census is essential for making policies.

According to Rahul, 90 percent of India’s population, despite having the necessary skills and talent, is still not well-connected to the system. During the Telangana Assembly election campaign, he promised that if the Congress came to power, it would prioritize conducting a caste census.

Rahul also criticized the BJP-led NDA government at the Centre for not maintaining a proper balance of representation across castes. He pointed out that out of 90 top bureaucrats managing the Union Government, only three are from the Other Backward Classes (OBC), and they hold relatively unimportant positions, not involved in key decision-making.

Meanwhile, the Telangana State Government is preparing to ensure that there are no legal challenges before starting the caste census, which is set to begin on Thursday. Sources from the Congress party mentioned that the meeting Rahul Gandhi will attend will have a select audience. This includes ministers, key party leaders, intellectuals, representatives from various castes, students, youth, and leaders from different civic society groups. The meeting will take place at the Gandhi Ideology Centre in Bowenpally.
