Rahul Penumaka, from Hyderabad, has been chosen as a Knight-Hennessy Scholar at Stanford University, joining a group of global scholars in the Knight-Hennessy Scholars Program. This program, created by Phil Knight and John Hennessy, offers financial support for up to three years for graduate studies at Stanford. It aims to develop leaders who can tackle complex global challenges with visionary, courageous, and collaborative approaches.

The selection criteria for Knight-Hennessy Scholars focus on independent thinking, purposeful leadership, and civic consciousness. The scholars are expected to be committed to driving positive change for society. The program also includes the King Global Leadership Program, which offers various workshops, lectures, and projects to help scholars achieve their leadership goals.

The 2024 cohort of Knight-Hennessy Scholars at Stanford consists of 90 scholars from 30 countries, representing 60 institutions. They are pursuing degrees in 45 different graduate programs across all seven schools at Stanford. Rahul Penumaka, the son of Dr. PV Ramesh and Dr. Mani Tolety, holds a medical degree and a bachelor’s degree in pharmacology from Imperial College London. He has received various honors and scholarships for his academic achievements.

Rahul’s research on gallbladder cancer biomarkers in Thailand has made a positive impact on clinical decision-making for chemotherapy patients. His contributions to university life have also been recognized with two Imperial Union Colour Awards.
