BJP MLA Criticizes Rahul Gandhi, Sparks Political Row in Telangana Assembly
A heated political debate unfolded in the Telangana Assembly after BJP MLA Aleti Maheshwar Reddy criticized Congress leader Rahul Gandhi. Reddy accused Gandhi of skipping memorial events for former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and instead choosing to celebrate New Year in Vietnam. His remarks provoked strong reactions from opposition leaders.
In response, CPI MLA Kunamneni Sambasiva Rao condemned Reddy’s comments and urged lawmakers to maintain decorum. Rao stressed the importance of honoring leaders like Manmohan Singh with dignity and respect. He pointed to the example of Telangana minister K.T. Rama Rao (KTR), who paid tributes in a solemn and appropriate manner. “Turning a respectful occasion into a political argument is not in line with our values,” Rao said.
Rao also emphasized that any failure to properly commemorate Dr. Singh’s legacy would undermine the respect owed to him. He called on assembly members to focus on honoring the former Prime Minister instead of engaging in unrelated political discussions. “Our priority should be paying tribute, not diverting attention,” he added.
The incident has reignited broader debates about maintaining decorum in political discourse, especially during events meant to honor prominent figures. Leaders on all sides have been reminded of the need for respectful dialogue in such solemn moments.
