Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has emphasized the importance of empowering women in India. He announced that the party will introduce the Gruha Lakshmi model, currently implemented in Karnataka, across the entire country. This statement was made during an event where Gandhi, along with party President Mallikarjun Kharge, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar, and other senior party leaders launched the direct benefit transfer of Rs 2,000 directly into the bank accounts of women in Karnataka under the ‘Gruha Lakshmi’ scheme.

After the event, Rahul Gandhi tweeted in Hindi, stating that women are the foundation of India and the country’s strength lies in their empowerment. He mentioned that four out of five guarantees provided by the Congress in Karnataka were specifically designed for women. Gandhi also highlighted the Gruha Lakshmi Yojana, which is India’s largest money transfer scheme for women, delivering Rs 2000 per month to their bank accounts. He expressed his intention to implement this women-centric system throughout India.

Mallikarjun Kharge, on completing 100 days in the Karnataka government, expressed satisfaction in launching the Gruha Lakshmi guarantee. This initiative will directly transfer Rs 2,000 per month to the accounts of more than one crore women, providing them relief from rising prices imposed by the Modi government and the BJP. Kharge emphasized that financial empowerment of women is essential for progress and pledged to prioritize women’s issues in the future.

It is worth noting that during the assembly elections in Karnataka, the Congress party promised five guarantees for the state if elected to power. Additionally, the Congress implemented a similar direct benefit transfer scheme for women in Himachal Pradesh after winning the assembly elections there in December last year.
