Rahul Gandhi granted extension of relief by Bombay High Court in Modi 'defamation' case until August 2nd.

The Bombay High Court has extended Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s relief from appearing in court until August 2nd. This is in relation to a defamation complaint filed by a man who claims to be a BJP worker, regarding Gandhi’s alleged remarks against Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2018. The complainant took issue with Gandhi’s “commander-in-thief” remark about the Rafale fighter jet deal and claimed it was defamatory.

A single bench of Justice S V Kotwal adjourned the hearing after the complainant’s lawyer requested more time. Justice Kotwal said that the interim relief granted earlier will continue until August 2nd. In a separate case, Gandhi was previously summoned by a local court to appear in November 2021 for a defamation complaint filed by Mahesh Shrishrimal.
