Hyderabad: The Rachakonda police have achieved a major success by recovering 1,016 stolen and lost mobile phones in just one month. These phones, worth a total of Rs 3 crore, were tracked and retrieved using the Central Equipment Identity Register (CEIR) portal. On Thursday, the recovered phones were returned to their rightful owners.
Rachakonda DCP (Crimes) V Aravind Babu explained that the recovery was made possible with the efforts of the Rachakonda Central Crime Station (CCS) and IT cells. He shared that out of the 1,016 phones recovered, 655 were found in LB Nagar, 290 in Malkajgiri, and 71 in Bhongir. So far this year, the police have recovered around 1,400 mobile phones using the CEIR portal.
On Thursday, Rachakonda Police Commissioner G Sudheer Babu personally handed over the recovered phones to their owners. He also took the opportunity to interact with them and gather feedback on police services. He advised the public to safeguard important information stored on their phones. Many people expressed their gratitude and appreciation for the police’s efforts in retrieving their lost devices.
Commissioner Sudheer Babu praised the work of DCP Aravind Babu, ACP (Crimes) Karuna Sagar, and the special teams from CCS and the IT Cell. He encouraged them to continue their efforts in recovering stolen mobile phones.
The police have warned the public that buying or selling stolen phones is a criminal offense. They advised people to verify the authenticity of mobile devices before purchasing them. Since mobile phones contain personal data, users should take precautions, especially in crowded places or while traveling.
The police also emphasized that stolen phones can be misused for criminal or cyber activities. To improve security, users should set strong passwords, enable the “Find My Device” feature, and regularly back up their data. In case of theft or loss, individuals should report the incident immediately to the nearest police station or through the nationwide CEIR Portal.
