Gadwal Police Warns Public About Cybercrimes
CI T Srinu has urged people to stay alert against cybercrimes, explaining that greed and excessive ambition often make people easy targets. He made these remarks at a cyber awareness rally held in Gadwal town as part of “Cyber Jagruti Diwas.” Srinu pointed out that criminals are using new technologies to deceive people in clever ways.
The rally took place on Wednesday, starting from SVM Degree College and ending at Krishna Veni Chowk. Many degree students participated in the event, which was held under the guidance of district SP T Srinivas Rao. The goal was to educate people about different types of cyber fraud and how to stay safe.
During his speech, CI Srinu explained various cybercrimes, such as fake investment schemes, digital arrests, and cyberbullying. He stressed that people should be cautious rather than regret their mistakes later. He reminded everyone that no one gives away money for free and that fraudsters often use tricks to steal from victims.
He also warned against sharing One-Time Passwords (OTPs) over phone calls, stating that bank officials never ask for them. He clarified that banks do not send random messages or links and advised people to verify any suspicious messages directly with their bank. Additionally, he cautioned against scams where fraudsters pretend to be government officials and ask for OTPs, claiming to offer government benefits.
CI Srinu also warned people not to click on suspicious blue-colored links received via SMS, email, WhatsApp, or Twitter, as these could be traps set by cybercriminals. He urged students and the public to be extra careful and avoid small mistakes that could lead to major financial losses.
For those who fall victim to cyber fraud, CI Srinu advised them to take immediate action by dialing 1930 or filing a complaint on the NCRP portal (www.cybercrime.gov.in). He assured that local police stations would respond quickly, and in some cases, there is a chance of recovering lost money.
The rally saw participation from Gadwal SI Kalyan Kumar, college faculty, and students. They all pledged to spread awareness about cybercrimes among their families and communities to help prevent further fraud.
