Former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan has been arrested, leading to protests by his supporters. The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party wants a nationwide shutdown to ensure Khan’s safety and is accusing the government of unconstitutional behavior. The party’s senior leader, Shah Mahmood Qureshi, has called for peaceful protests against Khan’s “illegal abduction.” Qureshi also accused the authorities of using chemical water and indiscriminately firing at PTI workers. He denied reports of violence during the protests and claimed that the government invited public wrath with Khan’s arrest. PTI supporters in London have also protested outside the home of PML-N leader Nawaz Sharif.
