Restore the Old Pension Scheme: PRTU TS Leaders Submit Petition in Ieeja
The Progressive Recognized Teachers Union (PRTU TS) has called on the Telangana state government to scrap the Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS) and bring back the Old Pension Scheme (OPS). This request comes in light of the Central Government’s decision to implement the Unified Pension Scheme (UPS) starting April 1, 2025. The union emphasized that restoring the OPS was a promise made in the government’s election manifesto.
To advocate for their demand, PRTU TS district president, Sri Pacharla Thimmareddy, submitted a memorandum to Ieeja Mandal Tahsildar, Smt. Y. Jyothi, during her lunch break. The memorandum urged the government to transition from CPS to UPS and reinstate OPS to ensure better post-retirement financial security for employees.

Key Demands of PRTU TS
The union made two main demands during the submission:
1. Abolish the Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS): This scheme has been criticized for its contribution-based framework, which many employees find unsatisfactory.
2. Reinstate the Old Pension Scheme (OPS): The OPS offers defined benefits and long-term financial security for retirees, which the union sees as essential for government employees and teachers.
The leaders stressed that restoring the OPS was a critical commitment made in the government’s election manifesto. They argued that fulfilling this promise is essential to safeguarding the welfare of employees and teachers.

They pledged to maintain pressure on the state government until concrete actions are taken to address their demands.
