Hyderabad: Revenue and Housing Minister Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy emphasized on Friday that the construction of Indiramma Houses is an ongoing process. He stated that it is the government’s responsibility to ensure eligible individuals are provided with housing.

The Minister explained that the distribution of houses will occur in two phases. In the first phase, houses will be allotted to those who already own house sites. In the second phase, houses will be provided to individuals who do not have any house sites. During a review meeting at the Secretariat, he discussed the Indiramma housing program, the need for surveyors, and the overall revenue system in villages.

Srinivasa Reddy suggested displaying two separate lists in gram sabhas – one for individuals with house sites and another for those without. He highlighted the phased approach to building Indiramma Houses. Officials informed the Minister that there are currently only 274 engineers in the Housing Corporation, but an additional 400 engineers are needed for construction and supervision. The Minister requested the Chief Secretary to explore how engineering personnel from other government departments could be utilized for this purpose.

The Minister also directed officials to devise a special action plan for housing construction within the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) limits. He instructed them to appoint a revenue officer for every revenue village. Additionally, he proposed conducting a separate examination to select eligible candidates from Village Revenue Officers (VROs) and Village Revenue Assistants (VRAs). He asked officials to immediately create the necessary procedures and arrangements for this examination.

Srinivasa Reddy noted that the state currently has 450 surveyors, but another 1,000 surveyors are required. He urged the officials to develop a transparent selection process and prepare a detailed plan to recruit surveyors. This, he said, would help accelerate the implementation of the Indiramma housing program.
