Anil Vij, the Home Minister of Haryana, is supporting wrestlers who have been protesting at Jantar Mantar in Delhi for two weeks. The wrestlers are demanding the arrest of Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, the president of the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI), following allegations of sexual harassment. Vij has offered to mediate between the wrestlers and the government to resolve the issue. He said that he is with the wrestlers and will do what he can to help, but needs to know their grievances first.
The wrestlers’ initial protest in January did not result in any resolution, leading to the ongoing protest. Last week, the Delhi police filed two FIRs after the Supreme Court issued a notice. Top Indian wrestlers, including Bajrang Punia, Sakshi Malik, and Vinesh Phogat, will hold a candle march today at 1900 hrs IST to further strengthen their protest.
