Preparations in full gear for Maha Shivaratri celebration at Kotappakonda, Srisailam

Officials have prepared the Kotappakonda Shiva Temple in Guntur district for the upcoming Maha Shivaratri celebrations on March 8, 2024. This temple is well-known for its connection to the sage Agastya Mahamuni, who taught about attaining moksha through the remembrance of Trikutachala.

Many devotees visit the Kotappakonda temple to worship Shiva. The Mahashivratri celebrations at this temple have been recognized as a State festival since 2008, attracting devotees from different parts of India. The number of visitors to the temple has increased significantly over time, now exceeding ten lakhs, highlighting the importance of Trikutachaleshwar.

The State Government has made extensive arrangements for the comfort of devotees visiting the temple this year. Approximately 30 lakh devotees are expected to participate in the celebrations. The police department has also put in place special plans and deployed 3,000 police personnel to manage the crowd and ensure smooth traffic flow.

Meanwhile, the Mahashivratri Brahmotsavam celebrations at the Srisailam shrine are taking place on a grand scale. On the fifth day of the celebrations, Mallikarjuna Swamy and Bhramaramba were worshipped with great devotion. The temple was decorated with beautiful lights, creating a mesmerizing sight for the devotees.

Throughout the day and night, priests and scholars conducted special pujas and rituals at the Srisailam temple. The deities were placed on a decorative mandapam atop Ravana’s vehicle for a ceremonial procession. This procession was accompanied by music and traditional instruments, delighting the devotees who participated in the celebration.
